6 Police Officers Arrested in Connection to Drug Crimes

KAMPONG SPEU: Six officers of the Kampong Speu Gendarmerie were arrested by the National Gendarmerie and sent to court in connection with drug offences.

Spokesperson for the National Gendarmerie, Brigadier General Eng Hy, confirmed that on October 26, the Sihanoukville Gendarmerie cracked down on drug offenses and found that officers in the Kampong Speu Police Department were relevant suspects.

The National and Sihanoukville Gendarmeries conducted interrogations of six officers from October 27-29, in which the suspects confessed that they had benefitted from drug offenses. According to the spokesperson, drug test results showed that the suspects were not on drugs themselves.

Brigadier General Eng Hy confirmed that judicial police officers were continuing to build the cases to be sent to the Sihanoukville Prosecutor's Office and to comply with the "confidentiality of the investigation.”

He said, "Under the leadership of General Sao Sokha, Commander of the National Gendarmerie, individuals suspected of crimes must comply with the law or be sent to court, adhering to the slogan "For the country to be protected, for the people to be served, the law must be respected, crime must be suppressed."
